Translating and Interpreting Service
If English is not your first language, Victims of Crime Assistance Tribunal staff can speak to you via the assistance of the Translating and Interpreting Service (TIS). You can contact the TIS directly on Ph: 131 450. This service is accessible anywhere in Australia for the cost of a local call.
Alternatively, you can contact the Tribunal provide your name, phone number and language to a staff member and they can organise the interpreting service to call you back.
The following steps will be taken to arrange your interpreter:
A staff member will call TIS on your behalf and request an interpreter in your language
TIS will make contact with an interpreter in your language
TIS will ask the interpreter to stay on the phone and TIS will call you
TIS will ensure that the Tribunal staff member is also on the phone.
At this stage, you proceed to speak in your language and the interpreter will then speak to the Tribunal staff member in English.
